CHECKKIND

From assignment
to next step.

A printable mini-lesson for helping students plan work without introducing another complicated system.

1. Name the finish line

Ask students to restate what a finished assignment must include. Keep it specific and observable.

2. Find the next three steps

Turn the assignment into three actions small enough to start: gather, draft and review are a useful pattern.

3. Work backward from the due date

Give each step its own date. Checkkind brings the nearest dated task to the top automatically.

4. Review the plan

Have students compare their list with the rubric, then remove anything that does not help complete the work.

“What is the smallest useful action you can take next—and when will you do it?”
